Brini

Brini

Brini, DSH Calico, Female, 7-8 years

The Girl in the Graveyard
Hello, my name is Brini. If I tell you I spent my childhood in a cemetery, would I scare you? I know that if you could have known my beautiful mother, my sisters and brothers, and me when we lived there, you wouldn't be scared at all. We weren't. At least in the daytime when the sun rose high. I remember those sweet quiet mornings when I scampered with my playmates through the grass, or sunned on a favorite tombstone in the sleepy aftenoons…we had so much fun.

I loved my mother. She whispered to me once that she had a "guardian" long long ago, so long ago she could barely remember, except for the love she had felt…she still remembered that. She told me to keep a little prayer in my heart for a "guardian" to come to the graveyard to find me someday. I know that she told all my brothers and sisters the very same thing. She loved us, and we loved her, so much. ...

Blue and Sherral
Blye and Sherral

Blue, DSH, Orange Tiger, Male, 3 years, FeLK +
Sherral, DSH, White, Female, 1.5 years, FeLK +

Blue and Sherral are not siblings, but they share the same life story and a very deep bond. Hurricane Katrina touched them both very darkly and in much the same way. They are true survivors. Although they will never be well physically, their spirits are unbroken and they thrive on the love and tender care given them.

Blue is a king-sized fellow, three years old now and as orange as the rising sun. Whether he always lived on the street, or was made homeless by the hurricane, no one knows. In the wake of Katrina a kind woman found him in such sorry shape that she immediately took him to a vet who took one look at him and urged her to euthanize the cat. Starvation had taken too terrible toll, he thought. As if that weren't enough, Blue had contracted leukemia/Aids.

The lady had loved Blue the moment she found him. At the vet's grim words, she broke into tears. The doctor felt so sorry for the two of them that he told her that there might be a way to save the poor cat. There was one unique place that might take Blue, in spite of his severe problems. It was a wonderful shelter called SpayMart. And take Blue they did. Because of his illness, he wasn't able to be with uninfected cats, so the people at SpayMart gave him the run of a small apartment at their Mississippi shelter, where volunteers sometimes stayed. He was glad to have a roof over him again and lots of square meals, too, but he couldn't help but be a little lonesome. The apartment was empty so much of the time...

  Boogie Boy, Male, Black
BOOGIE BOY really has nothing in common with the boogie man; he's more of a boogie-all-night, fun loving cuddle bucket. As a matter of fact, his reason for being is to entertain you - - he adores performing and will drop to the ground, roll over and over, back and forth and anything else he can think of to make you laugh and give him a rub. While trying to trap a feral kitten with health problems, we had the good fortune of catching Boogie Boy. It has been a real pleasure to care for this wonderful feline, but we're dying to share him with someone who can give him their undivided attention... and applause. Boogie Boy has been vaccinated, microchipped, & tested for feline leukemia & FIV. His $85 adoption fee will include a voucher to have him neutered.
