Candy, Female, 3 years
An adorable cat with a very sweet nature. All we know, is that a neighbor called the SpayMart shelter to inform us she purchased a house directly across the shelter and when she moved in the previous owner had left Candy locked up in a bedroom, with no litterbox, food or water. Fortunately for her the bedroom had an adjoining bath and the toilet seat was up, allowing her to drink. That was the only reason she survived. The new owner let the cat escape out the bedroom window. She owned two large German Shephards and was fearful for the cats safety. When the dogs began barking, she began to worry. There was a small shed outside the back and she discovered this had become Candy’s new home. She was fearful for Candy’s life and knew her dogs would kill her. She asked if it was possible for SpayMart to bait traps and remove her from the premises as soon as possible. As Candy was hungry , trapping her was an easy task. Candy adjusted quickly to her new life at the shelter and she is in fact at my feet while I write her story, wanting to know how long she has to wait for a new family.

Carmen,
Female, 2 years
I'm not sure where I came from.
All I know is at a very early age, I ended up living at
a house with lots of other cats. I must have
been about 6 weeks old. There was a black one, gray tabbies,
black and white tuxedoes, but no gray and white kittens
like me. I looked for my kind, but they just weren't there.
If I tried to nurse someone else's mom, I was pushed away.
So I just stayed to myself under the carport behind the
lawn mower. Lucky for me, the kind lady who fed us, noticed
I had no friends and always placed a water bowl and food
bowl for me in my hiding place. Then one day I heard loud
noises in the distance and each time this happened it
appeared to me there were less of us. This only encouraged
me to stay put and try to go unnoticed. Then one day,
a lady showed up and talked to our care giver a very long
time. You can't imagine how relieved
I was when this other lady suggested SpayMart as an alternative.
One by one we were taken in, sterilized and returned,
except for me and the other kittens. Most of them have
found homes, except for me. I'm actually
quite pretty and I would say gentle and loving.

Charlie Brown, Male
This boy loves to kiss you and be cuddled. CHARLIE BROWN
has used up two of his nine lives. He was rescued from
a burning house - - where extensive damage from smoke
inhalation nearly took his life. If that wasn't enough,
a large polyp occluding his throat nearly suffocated
him. With all his medical problems behind him, we have
the most adorable, playful, handsome boy anyone could
ask for!

Chester, Male, 6 years
CHESTER is a wonderful cat with a story to tell. He
belonged to a woman who rescued him as a kitten from
the back of an apartment complex in New Orleans. Life
was so good for the first four years of Chester's life,
if only it could've lasted forever. His whole life changed
overnight as he saw all of his familiar toys and cat
furniture going into boxes. Chester's owner was having
a baby and there was no longer room in her apartment
for the twelve cats in her life. Arrangements were made
for the pound to pick them up - - and that's when SpayMart
agreed to take them in. Our shelter has been no match
for replacing the lost love and comforts of these cats,
but Chester is hopeful that he can find stability this
time. This cream-and-white sweetie is only 6 years old,
plenty of time left for him to become a part of another
loving family. He's a wonderful conversationalist and
amuses you with his endless chatting.

Chevy, Female, 6 years
CHEVY was adopted as a youngster by a single mom with
several rowdy boys who played rough and tumble with
the kitten. Chevy quickly learned to defend herself
by nipping - - and it worked. Then the family decided
that they would no longer tolerate the defense they
trained her to adopt, and gave her up to us. She's six
years old, and a lovely, brown tabby with orange highlights.
Chevy's not a mean cat; she was merely given a poor
start by youngsters who didn't give her space and respect.
She willingly rubs against your legs, begs to be petted,
purrs affectionately, and is slowly learning that nipping
isn't necessary. Maybe all she needs is some regular,
kind attention.
