Candy, Female, 3 years
SWEETNESS AND THE WOLVES
Candy is her name and sweetness is her game. Life has
treated her very harshly, but her nature remains so
mild and trusting that she asks for nothing more than
a place to live. What she deserves, though, is the most
loving home possible, with a person of her own, as sweet
and good as she is, to fill her life with happiness
ever after.
Candy once lived right across the street from the SpayMart
shelter. One day her guardian sold the house and then
left with all her belongings except one. When the new
homeowner finally moved in with her two dogs, she discovered
a terrible odor coming from one of the bedrooms. She
was shocked to find a little abandoned cat (Candy) locked
inside, with no food or even a litterbox, surviving
only on water she drank from a toilet in an adjoining
bathroom. The stench in that room was unbearable. ...

Carmen,
Female, 2 years, DSH Gray and White
"Odd one out" I'm not sure where I came from.
All I know is at a very early age, I ended up living at
a house with lots and lots of other cats. I must have
been about 6 weeks old. There was a black one, gray tabbies,
black and white tuxedoes, but no gray and white kittens
like me. I looked for my kind, but they just weren't there.
If I tried to nurse someone else's mom, I was pushed away.
So I just stayed to myself under the carport behind the
lawn mower. Lucky for me, the kind lady who fed us, noticed
I had no friends and always placed a water bowl and food
bowl for me in my hiding place. Then one day I heard loud
noises in the distance and each time this happened it
appeared to me there were less of us. This only encouraged
me to stay put and try to go unnoticed. Then one day,
a lady showed up and talked to our care giver a very long
time. She said there were just too many of us and her
husband was forced to shoot the older males in an effort
to control the numbers. You can't imagine how relieved
I was when this other lady suggested SpayMart as an alternative.
One by one we were taken in, sterilized and returned,
except for me and the other kittens. Most of them have
found homes, except for me. I actually tried it twice,
but once, that big family cat scared me and I was returned.
And the second time I confess, that kitten got on my nerves
and I let him have it. Looking back, I wouldn't have done
it if I'd known she was looking. Anyway, I'm actually
quite pretty and I would say gentle and loving. I just
need a chance to prove myself with the right family and
the right environment. Not to be miss "pitty kat"
but I'm tired of being the odd one out when in my heart
I have so much to give.

This boy loves to kiss you and be cuddled. CHARLIE BROWN
has used up two of his nine lives. He was rescued from
a burning house - - where extensive damage from smoke
inhalation nearly took his life. If that wasn't enough,
a large polyp occluding his throat nearly suffocated
him. With all his medical problems behind him, we have
the most adorable, playful, handsome boy anyone could
ask for! Charlie Brown has been neutered, vaccinated,
& tested for feline leukemia & FIV.

Chester, Male, DSH Orange and White, 6 years
CHESTER is a wonderful cat with a story to tell. He
belonged to a woman who rescued him as a kitten from
the back of an apartment complex in New Orleans. Life
was so good for the first four years of Chester's life,
if only it could've lasted forever. His whole life changed
overnight as he saw all of his familiar toys and cat
furniture going into boxes. Chester's owner was having
a baby and there was no longer room in her apartment
for the twelve cats in her life. Arrangements were made
for the pound to pick them up - - and that's when SpayMart
agreed to take them in. Our shelter has been no match
for replacing the lost love and comforts of these cats,
but Chester is hopeful that he can find stability this
time. This cream-and-white sweetie is only 6 years old,
plenty of time left for him to become a part of another
loving family. He's a wonderful conversationalist and
amuses you with his endless chatting. Chester has been
vaccinated, microchipped, & tested for feline leukemia
& FIV. His $85 adoption fee will include a voucher
to have him neutered.

Chevy, Female, DSH, Brown Tabby, 6 years
CHEVY was adopted as a youngster by a single mom with
several rowdy boys who played rough and tumble with
the kitten. Chevy quickly learned to defend herself
by nipping - - and it worked. Then the family decided
that they would no longer tolerate the defense they
trained her to adopt, and gave her up to us. She's six
years old, and a lovely, brown tabby with orange highlights.
Chevy's not a mean cat; she was merely given a poor
start by youngsters who didn't give her space and respect.
She willingly rubs against your legs, begs to be petted,
purrs affectionately, and is slowly learning that nipping
isn't necessary. Maybe all she needs is some regular,
kind attention. Chevy has been vaccinated, microchipped,
& tested for feline leukemia & FIV. Her $85
adoption fee will include a voucher to have her spayed.
