After being part of a family for five years, Patches' owners could no longer care for her, and she was turned over to SpayMart for re-homing. Patches is declawed, and would enjoy being an only cat. She would also be happier in a low-key environment. Patches is very loving and would be worth every minute - - once you win over her trust.

Little Paul is an unexplained gift of Hurricane Katrina. He came on the heels of the horrendous storm, when the SpayMart shelter in Picayne, MS was in total disarray. There was no water. All the power lines were down. The devastation was everywhere, and even thick darkness at night couldn't completely hide it. Huge trees had fallen, blocking streets and driveways. Not only homeless animals, but displaced people were flocking to the little shelter to find safety and comfort. SpayMart welcomed them all.

I was born to a feral mom on the West Bank. One day she didn’t show up.  I waited and waited all day, and I knew something was terribly wrong. I didn’t feel safe behind the bush although I had laid there many times without my mom., so I decided to huddle by the side of the road near the house. Then something weird happened.  The vehicle stopped in the middle of the road and began backing up. A very gentle voice, said “hey little man, wanna go home with me”. She scooped me up and held me very close.  It wasn’t mom, but a close second.  Just when I thought my luck might be turning, I was carried to a hospital and some man wearing a white coat took one look at me and shook his head.  After x-raying my lungs, the verdict was trouble pronounced with a recommendation of euthanasia.   Next think I know, she holds me close, and we leave the clinic.  When we reached the car, I remember her saying, lets give him a chance, the worse thing that could happen is we lose him. I grew stronger with each passing day. I must say I turned into quite a handsome boy with a truly delightful personality.
